To further enhance the visibility of Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark and to spread awareness about the importance of conserving geological sites, on 6 March, 2023, the Zigong Municipal People's Congress invited the Administrator Center of Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark to give a popular science lecture on geopark for its staff members.
The lecturer was Wang Wenwei, Director of the Administrator Center of Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark. With the title 'Current Status of Dinosaur Geological Site Protection in Zigong', Wang Wenwei introduced the concepts related to global and national geoparks, geological sites, and palaeontological fossils. He also provided an overview of Zigong's geological site conservation status and the usage of these natural treasures, discussed current challenges faced by the geopark, and detailed forthcoming strategies.
The staff members of Zigong Municipal People's Congress conveyed that the lecture was highly beneficial to them. They acquired significant information about global geoparks and also attained a more comprehensive comprehension of the tasks associated with preserving Zigong's geological sites. This experience supports the enhancement of legal safeguarding for the dinosaur geological site and aids in the more systematic development, management, and geological site conservation and application of Zigong's geopark.
