Solicitation of Dinosaur-themed Works from the whole Society by the "Hometown of Dinosaurs"

The "One Glimpse, One Hundred Million Years" Art and Design Competition (2nd Session) themed "Integration and Development of Science and Art" officially solicits works from society to guide the creation and production of dinosaur-themed culture and art and launch more excellent artworks that showcase dinosaur themes and explore the cultural connotations of dinosaurs.

Upgrading the Scale to Stimulate the Enthusiasm for Participation

In September 2021, Zigong Dinosaur Museum held the first "One Glimpse, One Hundred Million Years" Art and Design Competition, which attracted attention and support from all walks of life. It received more than 800 works from over 700 creators nationwide. This year's competition has been upgraded. It is guided by the Palaeontological Society of China and the Artistic League of Higher Educational Institute of Chengdu and Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Zone and jointly hosted by the Science Popularisation Working Committee of the Palaeontological Society of China, Sichuan Association of Natural Science Museums, and Sichuan Digital Media Art Association. The bonus is up to RMB 20,000, which stimulates the enthusiasm for participation.

Dual-track Submission, Full Coverage of Science and Art

The solicitation is open to all artists, teachers and students of art colleges and universities, art practitioners, and dinosaur art enthusiasts. The content should be artworks based on dinosaurs and related elements with the theme of "Integration and Development of Science and Art". Entries will be divided into two tracks, including the "scientific restoration of dinosaurs" with rigorous scientific reproduction and the "art creation of dinosaurs" with creativity.

Unlimited Forms, Free Dreams of Dinosaurs

There are no limitations on the forms of entries, which can be oil paintings, traditional Chinese paintings (meticulous brushwork), printmaking, watercolor (gouache), pen drawings, digital illustrations, mixed materials, or physical cultural creations, carving handicrafts, garage kits, and other art forms.

The size of oil paintings, printmaking, and watercolor (gouache) works should be no less than 780×540mm and no more than 1,500×1,800mm. The size of traditional Chinese paintings should be no less than 60×97cm and no more than 248×129cm. Digital illustrations should have a size above A3, the CMYK colour model, and a resolution of no less than 300 dpi. The maximum size of physical cultural creations, (carving) handicrafts, and garage kits should not exceed 1,000mm.

About the Bonus and Certificate of Award

The deadline for material submission of this competition is 5 November 2023, after which the preliminary review, re-evaluation, online publicity, and announcement of award-winning works shall be carried out in an orderly manner. The prizes of the competition are as follows:

Scientific Restoration:

Special Prize (1 winner): RMB 20,000

First Prize (3 winners): RMB 8,000 for each winner

Second Prize (5 winners): RMB 5,000 for each winner

Third Prize (10 winners): RMB 3,000 for each winner

Excellence Award (60 winners): Souvenirs

Art Creation:

Special Prize (1 winner): RMB 20,000

First Prize (3 winners): RMB 8,000 for each winner

Second Prize (6 winners): RMB 5,000 for each winner

Third Prize (12 winners): RMB 3,000 for each winner

Excellence Award (80 winners): Souvenirs

The award-winning works shall receive a certificate of honour jointly stamped by the Science Popularisation Working Committee of the Palaeontological Society of China, the Sichuan Association of Natural Science Museums, and the Sichuan Digital Media Art Association. Besides, they will be exhibited in Zigong Dinosaur Museum from 22 December 2023, and promoted and displayed on media platforms of the Palaeontological Society of China, the Artistic League of Higher Educational Institute of Chengdu and Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Zone, the Sichuan Digital Media Art Association, and the Sichuan Association of Natural Science Museums.
