Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark Participated in Online Global Geoparks Network Exchange Activity

The geodiversity workship has been held from 19:30-22:00 on March 30, 2022. This online talk was organized by the Hong Kong Geographical Association.During the period, experts shared the relevant situation of the United Kingdom, Portugal, Italy and Poland around the theme of "Geodiversity Day".The main contents include the construction of geopark, geological heritage and its protection strategies, and the importance of geodiversity to European human landscapes, etc., aiming to celebrate  International Geodiversity Day.

International Geodiversity Day

From now on, 6 October will be International Geodiversity Day. This annual celebration of geodiversity was approved on 22 November, 2022 by 193 member states attending UNESCO’s biennial General Conference in Paris.The approval followed a request from the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and 108 other scientific organisations for the proclamation of an International Geodiversity Day.  International Geodiversity Day  are annual observances instigated by the United Nations.It will offer an opportunity to showcase how an education in geological sciences can provide humanity with sustainable solutions to pressing challenges such as responsible resource extraction, disaster risk reduction, mitigation of climate change and biodiversity loss.And it will also raise awareness of the critical linkages between geodiversity and all life forms.
