Wangye Temple, located in Binjiang Road in the center of Zigong City, was build by the local salt shipping merchants from 1851 to 1861. The building is well structured and decorated with gorgeous colored drawing and exquisite carvings. Its construction and evolvement were closely related to the development of Zigong salt industry. It is both a product of the prosperity of salt industry and a witness of the furious competition between local merchants and outlander merchants. Wangye Temple is significant to the study of social life, politics and economy, art and culture, local customs and practices of Zigong area in the late Qing Dynasty.
