The 7th International Training Course on UNESCO Global Geoparks Management and Development was held in Zhangye, Gansu Province from 8 to 13 October 2023. Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark dispatched representatives to participate in the training.

The training course was hosted by the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) and the Secretariat of the UNESCO Global Geoparks and undertaken by China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and Zhangye UNESCO Global Geopark. About 160 experts, scholars, and geopark workers from global geoparks, candidate sites for global geoparks, scientific research institutes, and related technical institutions participated in the training. With the theme of "Connections among Geological Heritage, Nature, Biodiversity, and Cultural Heritage", the training course invited some geopark experts to serve as lecturers, including Nickolas Zouros, President of the GGN, Jin Xiaochi and Ibrahim Komoo, Vice President of the GGN, Setsuya Nakada, Vice Chairperson of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council, Zhang Jianping, Member of the GGN Executive Board, Marie-Luise Frey, Member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council, and Zheng Yuan, Senior UNESCO Global Geopark Evaluator.

During the training, representatives from Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark attentively listened to the thematic lectures, issue analysis, and case studies. Besides, they actively participated in group discussions to learn about the concept, criterion, management, online exchanges, and capacity building of global geoparks as well as noteworthy matters related to the application, evaluation, and revalidation of global geoparks.
Collection of the Certificate of Completion by Trainees of Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark
In 2024, UNESCO shall conduct the revalidation of Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark. Subsequently, Zigong will further enhance the learning and understanding of the training content to improve the management, construction, and development capabilities of the Geopark. It will meticulously carry out all the work of the Geopark according to the criteria and requirements of global geoparks to contribute to the sustainable economic and social development of the local region.
