Located in Tianwan Village, Heping Town, Zigong, the fossil is preserved in the Middle Jurassic purple siltstone in Member 2 of Shaximiao Formation. It is a fairly intact fossil skeleton of a large carnivorous dinosaur with a total length of 9 m, of which merely the length of the skull is longer than 1 m. This dinosaur was then named as "Yangchuanosaurus hepingensis".
